We have to wait until Wednesday to see if we’ll host the 2032 Olympics, regardless we’ll be celebrating the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games with a live screening event this weekend!

The Mill Playspace will be transformed into a pop-up fan zone where you can get into the Olympic Spirit and cheer on our Aussie athletes on the big screen in an outdoor lounge room from 1pm on Saturday 24 July.

Mayor Peter Flannery encouraged locals to come together as a community and get behind our Aussie athletes competing abroad at this difficult time.

“Although we can’t travel to Tokyo to support them at the Games, events like this provide us with the opportunity to come together as a community and show our support from afar,” Mayor Flannery said.

“I know that so many athletes would be overjoyed to know that they have this level of support coming from their community back home.

“So we’re throwing a covid-safe, family-friendly event to get Moreton Bay Region into the Olympic Spirit!

“Kids can test out their Olympic skills with the ‘come and try’ activities on offer like the inflatable soccer target shootout, or getting their adrenaline pumping in an action-packed game of archery tag.

“Parents can put their feet up and enjoy the delicious food vendors while listening to some live tunes. While you’re at it, don’t forget to check out the new play space and water park onsite.”

Mayor Peter Flannery said it will be exciting to see the local community celebrating the Games after they were postponed in 2020.

“Even more exciting though will be if we win the 2032 bid because The Mill is one of a handful of sites in South East Queensland that will score major new government investment,” Mayor Flannery said.

“This would be a huge opportunity for us to showcase what our region has to offer.

“We are working to make our economy bigger, bolder and brighter and the boost to tourism and infrastructure that the Olympics would bring would benefit our region for years to come.”

Come along with your family and friends and experience the Tokyo Olympics in a whole new way.
