City of Moreton Bay has provided Council land for a new helipad, providing vital access to aeromedical rescue and retrieval care in Toorbul and surrounds.
Launched today (Thursday 7 December), the designated Helicopter Landing Site has been a collaborative effort between the Toorbul Community and District Association (TCDA), City of Moreton Bay, construction company Fulton Hogan and Lifeflight, at no cost to residents.
The helipad site is at 1798 Pumicestone Road, Toorbul and is situated in the Toorbul and Donnybrook Seniors Club carpark.
Mayor of City of Moreton Bay, Peter Flannery today applauded the local community and TDCA President John Buckby for their commitment to this important community resource.
“This has been a genuinely cooperative effort that will have a huge impact on the local community.
“Toorbul has only one road in and out, so in the case of emergency, this helipad is an important asset and one that the community will benefit from over many years.”
Councillor Brooke Savige (Division 1) paid tribute to the local volunteers and members of the TCDA Management Committee who worked tirelessly to make the helipad a reality.
“It was a real team effort and I was proud to represent Council and support my local area in getting this happening.
“LifeFlight is a world leader in aeromedical care, with a core purpose to save lives and serve the community so their support will be of great benefit to Toorbul and surrounds.”
TDCA president John Buckby said the helipad was a wonderful achievement that showcased what can be achieved when Council and community work together.
“I feel very proud the community will have the expertise of LifeFlight and other aeromedical services to help if needed.
“I’d like to thank Council and also Fulton Hogan who provided all materials, equipment and contractors free of charge.
“Our local area has a large proportion of senior age residents and to have this capability is an amazing addition to the community and the Pumicestone Passage.
“I’m also very proud that this was achieved thanks to the everyone involved at no added cost to the community.”
