'Tour De Moreton Bay' to showcase the region’s beauty

All eyes will be on Moreton Bay this weekend when the state’s best cyclists descend on the region’s stunning hinterland for the NXsports Queensland Road Team Series across two action-packed days.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the event was a great opportunity to showcase the natural beauty of our region and generate important economic stimulus for local businesses this Saturday and Sunday (16, 17 October).

“I’m dubbing this the Tour De Moreton Bay because it’s just as scenic and beautiful as the French countryside that millions of people tune in to watch every year with the Tour De France,” he said.

“The race might not have quite the same prestige just yet, but it’ll certainly put Moreton Bay Region on the map in the cycling world, which is great momentum after the news that the Dolphins will be joining the NRL in season 2023.

“This event will be a big boost to local businesses who’ll have a new wave of riders visiting the region and hopefully coming back for return trips once they see what we have to offer.

“Moreton Bay Region’s hinterland is the untapped secret only a short drive from the Brisbane CBD with quaint little getaways to mountain top views – it’s got it all.

“There will be minor traffic delays associated with rolling road closures escorted by police as the race moves through different areas across Saturday and Sunday.

“Saturday’s racing begins at 7am from Henry Bradley Park Dayboro and will move south toward Mount Samson, while Sunday’s racing will begin at the same time from Wamuran State School toward Campbells Pocket Road.

“I encourage all motorists to be patient, follow police instruction and the delays will be minor.”
