Update: Tropical Cyclone Alfred

Published 05 March 2025

Strong winds blowing a tree with storm clouds in the back.

City of Moreton Bay has urged residents to make final preparations before Tropical Cyclone Alfred makes landfall. This is predicted to be Thursday night/Friday morning.

The window to prepare is closing. It is very rare for a tropical cyclone of this strength to directly impact South East Queensland.

Dangerous wind impacts will be felt from this afternoon onwards and BOM has alerted people to tidal impacts from Thursday onwards.

We expect higher than usual storm surge. Dangerous winds with the potential for gusts of between 95-130km/hr are predicted. Houses in South East Queensland are generally not built to cyclone standard, so we expect damage to buildings. A cyclone brings with it gale force winds making it dangerous for people to move around the City. The time may come when Council cannot assist residents as it is unsafe. If life is in danger, call 000.

City of Moreton Bay’s Disaster Dashboard has the most up to date information: Disaster Dashboard
