Whip Out to Winton for Real Adventure These School Holidays

Craving adventure? Culture? Wide open spaces? Quirky characters? An authentic country pub? Or all of the above?… Then set your GPS for Winton, because Moreton Bay’s friendship city is the best place to escape these school holidays in both June and September!
In June join us to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival which has become a major drawcard for Winton and provides huge economic benefit to the town.
Then in the September school holidays Winton hosts the famous Outback Festival which was established in 1972 to help stimulate the town’s drought-stricken economy, and since then it’s gone from strength-to-strength.
Mayor Peter Flannery said Council was proud to still be honouring this bush-to-beach relationship, which has lasted 26 years.
“Winton might only be home to 800 residents, but it has so much to offer and it’s a truly Australian experience to get out there,” Mayor Flannery said.
“It’s the dinosaur capital of Australia, the birthplace of Qantas, and the home of Waltzing Matilda.
“And from June 23 to July 1 it also boasts the biggest outback film festival in the world, in one of the most remote places on the planet.
“Then from September 19-23 the five-day Outback Festival is truly an event like no other, I mean the hilarious signature event is the Australian Dunny Derby sponsored by Quilton, need I say more?
“The festival engulfs the whole main street kicking off with a free mardi gras street party, then there are sports challenges, novelty events, food, family fun and nightly live entertainment. It’s just wholesome outback fun for the whole family.
“Winton Shire Mayor Gavin Baskett has told me locals are already excited and making preparations to welcome visitors for these two major events, so I encourage anyone who can to get along to see for yourself the brilliance that outback Queensland has to offer.”
