You Light Up My Park

The safety and convenience of four parks in the Moreton Bay Region has been improved with the installation of almost $1 million in new park lighting and car park infrastructure, as part of the Australian Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor, Allan Sutherland, thanked the Australian Government for its $620,000 contribution to new lighting in Talobilla, Platypus, Norfolk Esplanade and Wallace Street North parks.

“A total of 51 new power saving LED overhead lights has been erected in three Caboolture Parks to illuminate almost two kilometres of pathway and at Talobilla Park, Kippa-Ring ,” Mayor Sutherland said.

“The lighting upgrades are expected to improve public safety, as well as extend the usability of local park infrastructure after sunset, particularly during the summer months.

“It's a solid investment in our community and ensures the Moreton Bay Region remains a much envied place to work, live and play.

Mayor Sutherland said in addition to new lighting, 60 new car parks had also been delivered at Talobilla Park for the convenience of residents taking part in a host of sports including baseball, softball, soccer and rugby league.

“For parents getting the kids involved in weekend sport, the 60 new car parks at Talobilla Park are great example of what can be achieved when local and federal governments work in partnership,” the Mayor said.

Federal Member for Petrie, Yvette D’Ath, said the Australian Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program was a nation-wide project to build safer communities and rejuvenate existing suburban infrastructure.

"This is an important initiative for the safety and well being of local residents and follows the recent $1 million installation of new CCTV cameras across the Moreton Bay Region through the Safer Suburbs Program,” Yvette D’Ath said.

"It's a win for local recreation and our community's right to feel safe in public places."
