Cat and dog identification tags

From 1 August 2024, Council will no longer issue registration tags for cats and dogs, except for regulated dogs.

All cats and dogs in City of Moreton Bay must be registered and wear an identification tag when not at their registered address, per Council’s Animal Management Local Law 2023.

As a pet owner, you are responsible for supplying your cat or dog's identification tag. The tag must display your current phone number. This helps reunite you with your pet faster if they become lost and are found by someone or a Council Officer.

If your cat or dog is found wandering, they will be identifiable using the details on their tag and microchip. Microchipping of cats and dogs is mandatory under the Queensland Government’s Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.

You should provide Council with your pet's microchip number and ensure that your contact details are kept up-to-date with Council and the microchip provider. Update your pet's registration details.

Replacement of a broken or damaged Council-issued registration tag

From 1 August 2024, Council will no longer issue replacement registration tags for cats and dogs, except for regulated dogs.

If you were issued a registration tag before 1 August 2024, your cat or dog can continue to wear it, but they will also need to wear an identification tag.
