Key Extractive Resources place type
The Strategic framework outlines the 20-year vision for growth and development in Moreton Bay. It divides the City into 13 place types. These place types explain the level of growth and form of development that is expected in different neighbourhoods and communities throughout Moreton Bay. Key Extractive Resource areas are one of these 13 place types.
Key Extractive Resource place types are rich in deposits of important extractive material including phyllite, granite, greenstone, bluestone, sand, gravel and clay.
These are natural resources used by the construction industry to produce concrete, asphalt, road bases and range of other products.
Where can I find a Key Extractive Resources place type?
Key Extractive Resources can be found at Beachmere, Bracalba, Meldale, Narangba, Ningi, Whiteside and the South Pine River at Brendale.
Why are Key Extractive Resources important?
These places provide raw materials essential for local infrastructure including roads and railways and providing for the construction industry.
The Key Extractive Resource place type will allow Moreton Bay’s natural resources to continue to be extracted over time.
The use of land after resource extraction and rehabilitation will be compatible with the character and amenity of the surrounding area. Council will consider access, environmental values, existing and proposed development on adjacent land, available infrastructure and public safety.
