Home wastewater improvement grant
Maintaining the health of our catchments plays an important role in preserving our city's natural beauty.
Council is working with Seqwater to improve water quality in the North Pine catchment area.
As part of this initiative, grants are available to eligible property owners in:
- Rush Creek
- Armstrong Creek
- Kobble Creek.
The grant helps property owners replace or repair failing or outdated on-site sewage facilities (OSF).
These improvements will reduce the risk of waterway contamination, helping to support a healthy environment.
Grant eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the grant, residents must book an inspection of their septic or treatment plant systems.
A licensed Council plumbing inspector will check the system and determine any maintenance or upgrade requirements. Residents will also receive valuable tips and further advice on how to apply for the grant.
This OSF health check is free of charge and will be used to confirm eligibility.
Call (07) 3480 6601 to book an inspection or receive help with your grant application.
Come and talk to us in person at our OSF community information sessions in Dayboro.
Residents connected to the town sewer network are not eligible.
These health checks are not a comprehensive service. They do not replace the need for property owners to operate and maintain their septic tank systems per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Benefits of maintaining on-site sewerage facilities
OSFs treat household sewage and greywater so that it can be disposed of on the property safely.
An OSF that is not working correctly can cause odours, attract vermin and insects. It can pose a risk to the health of residents, the public and the environment.
A poorly maintained OSF can impact our waterways by:
- increasing nutrient levels that promote the growth of algae and aquatic weeds. This can reduce oxygen in the water and impact aquatic life.
- discharging pathogenic organisms, including viruses and bacteria, such as Escherichia coli (E. coli).
- contaminating groundwater.
