Creative Industries Demo Day

Creative Industries Demo Day aims to unearth local businesses in the creative industries sector. It is an opportunity for businesses that are looking to grow and access new markets and customers. Moreton Bay business owners are given the chance to pitch their ideas in front of judges and guests.

Before presenting their pitches, finalists attend a half-day workshop. The workshop provides support and advice. This helps them to fine-tune their pitch and presentation skills.

The Creative Industries Demo Day is part of Innovate Moreton Bay's innovative programs. This is in line with Council's commitment to the Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS). REDS aims to make Moreton Bay a top-ten regional innovation hub.

Creative Industries Demo Day 2023

This year’s event showcased the pitches of eight business owners chosen from a pool of 22 applicants. They presented to industry-leading judges and guests representing local and state government and private sector. Charlie Cush, CEO of Brisbane Festival, hosted the 2023 Creative Industries Demo Day.

Paul Szep from Blind Bats and his game-changing Beeping Ball was unanimously voted the judges' choice. His project aims to empower the blind community by enabling participation in sports and social events many take for granted.

The battery-operated cricket ball emits a continuous sound to help vision-impaired players participate in the sport. It has the potential to become the new international standard for blind cricket. It's no wonder this innovative product has captured national and international attention and support from representatives at all three levels of government.

Paul was awarded a 1:1 mentoring session with a matched Queensland AI Hub expert and a 12-month Queensland AI Hub membership.

Before Demo Day, the eight successful participants had the opportunity to attend a workshop hosted by world-class trainer and workshop facilitator Jacqueline Nagle of Any Given Tuesday. This half-day workshop helped finalists fine-tune their pitches and improve their communication skills and business strategy.

In May 2022, Council and Innovate Moreton Bay organised the first Creative Industries Demo Day. The event was held at Caboolture Hub, which is the centre for creative businesses in the region. The bar has now been set high for future events.

Out of 17 applicants, six local business owners were selected to pitch their ideas in front of industry-leading judges and guests.

Finalists credited their refined pitches to the support and advice offered during the half-day pre-pitch workshop. The workshop was hosted by world-class trainer and workshop facilitator Jacqueline Nagle of Any Given Tuesday. The workshop aimed to help participants fine-tune their presentation skills.

Pia Robinson from The Culture Crusader and her project Martin and Friends: Enabling through Augmented Reality was announced as the winner.

In support of the project, the judges awarded her a one-on-one mentoring session with a Queensland AI Hub expert-in-residence and a 12-month Queensland AI Hub membership.
