Changing Places
A Changing Places facility is an amenity for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets.
They are provided in key public locations and offer safe, hygienic and dignified access to public toilets for people with high support needs and their carers.
They contain specialised equipment, such as:
- a height-adjustable adult change table
- a ceiling hoist
- a peninsular toilet
- a privacy screen
- a shower (optional).
Changing Places assist people with high support needs, enabling them to be more active and engaged in their local community. Having access to these facilities means they can go out with friends, attend a public event or exhibition, or even go for a swim at their local pool without worrying about how they will get to the toilet.
Changing Places Network Plan
Council wants all residents and visitors to have equal access to the city’s infrastructure, services and opportunities. After consulting with the community, service providers and experts, Council is the first local government in Australia to develop a Changing Places Network Plan(PDF, 31MB).
This plan guides the long-term planning and delivery of Changing Places facilities to meet the current and future needs of the city. It is an important step towards making the city a fairer and more inclusive place to live, work, enjoy and visit.
