Termites and vermin
Termites (white ants)
Termites fall into two groups, drywood termites and subterranean termites. Drywood termite nests are not connected to soil, they live in galleries inside timber. Subterranean termite nest structures are always connected to soil.

Your responsibilities managing termites
Residents should take precautions against possible termite infestation in their homes. Termites can cause extensive damage to buildings if left unchecked.
Homeowners are responsible for protecting their property from termites. They should engage with a licensed pest control company for annual termite inspections and treatments.
Vermin including rats and mice
Rats and mice have adapted to living in close association with humans.
The presence of rats and mice can result in spoilt food and damage to structures and furnishings. It can also lead to the transmission of diseases to humans.
Your responsibilities managing vermin
You can help prevent attracting rats and mice to your property by:
- limiting access to pet food. Remove food from outside areas once your pet has finished eating or feed your pet inside.
- limiting access to waste. Cover bins, do not overfill wheelie bins or leave rubbish bags outside unattended.
Property owners are responsible for treating rodent problems on their property. Seek the advice of a licensed pest management company to get help with getting rid of mice and rats.
