Food business complaints

Council works with local food businesses to help them understand and adhere to the Food Act 2006. However, there may be instances when a food business does not meet these standards.

Council investigates:

  • food poisoning and other foodborne illnesses
  • unlicensed food businesses
  • poor food hygiene and food handling practices
  • pest and vermin on a food business premises
  • cleanliness and maintenance issues.

Making a complaint

You can report food poisoning and other food safety concerns to Council online.

Provide as much information as possible, including:

  • the name and location of the food business
  • the date and time you were there
  • what you ordered, if applicable
  • details of the issue
  • images.

Complaints about other food-related issues and primary producers

Council does not investigate food-related complaints associated with:

  • labelling
  • allergic reactions
  • food quality, for example, flavour, appearance, or texture.

You can report these to Queensland Health.

If you have a complaint about a primary producer, such as a livestock or produce farm, contact Safe Food Queensland.
