Council is aware a number of food businesses lost power following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, resulting in food spoilage. Council supports Queensland Health’s advice on dealing with power failures and disposal of food - see Food safety after a disaster. For further advice, contact Council.
Food businesses that handle potentially hazardous foods need to apply food safety management tools. This includes completing mandatory training.
Under the Food Act 2006, all food businesses need to ensure staff have skills and knowledge in handling food safely. Free courses are available.
Certain licensable food businesses must have a food safety program accredited by Council. Find out what should be in your program and how to apply.
Licensable food businesses must notify Council of their food safety supervisor who has a certificate from a registered training organisation.
