Pay a fine or infringement notice
The city will issue infringement notices (fines) for many state or local law offences such as parking, animals, illegal dumping and signage.
You can pay your fine online or at a customer service centre.
Payment is due 28 days from the date on the notice. If you do not pay your fine in full by the due date, we will refer it to SPER, who may apply additional charges or take other recovery action. If this occurs, you should direct all enquiries to SPER.

You will need your infringement notice number. This is located at the top left of the infringement notice.

Nominate another person
We will issue all vehicle-related infringement notices to the owner of the offending vehicle.
If the vehicle owner is not the person who committed the offence, they can nominate another person by completing a statutory declaration(PDF, 43KB).
You must provide the statutory declaration to us within 28 days from the date on the notice.
Pay other fines
Other fines include fines relating to animals, building, plumbing, development, food, and health and hygiene offences.
You will need your infringement notice number. This is located at the top left of the infringement notice.

Pay by instalments
You can apply to pay in instalments for fines over $200. You must apply within 28 days from the date on the notice.
To apply, complete the back of the infringement notice and return it, with your first instalment of $60, to a customer service centre or by post to:

We will refer the fine to SPER, who will send you an instalment plan.
If you make all the monthly payments, the infringement notice will be finalised and no further action will be taken against you.

Dispute a fine
If we have issued you a fine and you believe there is cause for it to be withdrawn, you can request a review:
- within 28 days of the infringement issue date
- 28 days after the date the infringement reminder is sent.
We will consider withdrawing a fine if there is:
- an exemption from the law
- a reasonable excuse (for example, compassionate grounds, emergency medical reason or circumstance, a vehicle was sold or stolen)
- an error on the infringement notice.
Ensure you provide sufficient supporting evidence such as photographs, copies of disability permits, medical documents, receipts or a statutory declaration stating the vehicle was sold, stolen or nominating another person.

You must elect to go to court within 28 days from the date on the notice. Once received, a prosecution against you maybe started in a Magistrates Court.
You are responsible for obtaining legal advice before the court hearing. If found guilty, you may need to pay legal costs. If you do not appear on the date set for the hearing, the offence may be heard in your absence.
Penalty units
Penalty unit values govern the dollar amount displayed on the infringement notice. Queensland's Penalties and Sentences Regulation 2015 defines this value, and the Queensland State Treasurer reviews it yearly.
The penalty unit value in Queensland from 1 July 2024 is $161.30.
When the penalty value is applied to offences enforced through the issuing of a Prescribed Infringement Notice (PIN), the amount of the PIN is rounded down to the nearest whole dollar.
