Beech Drive Park - Water quality improvements

Beech Drive Park, Morayfield is a high-priority location for water quality improvement. Water quality is a key focus of Council’s Local Government Infrastructure Plan. This project will improve the quality of overflow to the Caboolture River catchment.

The stormwater improvements to Beech Drive Park will naturalise the existing unlined channel. Another vegetated channel will be constructed to connect the existing ponds. The works will improve maintenance access and the ecological condition of the waterway.

The existing channel is prone to erosion and often overgrown with weeds. The channel then flows into ponds with a limited connection to the waterway. In times of low rainfall, these ponds can become stagnant. This project will address these and a range of related issues.

What to expect

During construction, there will be extensive earthworks and soil stabilisation. We will construct pathways and viewing points for visitors and improve maintenance access. There will also be extensive planting of native plants, shrubs, and trees.

Project outcomes

The project will have many benefits. It will:

  • result in improved water quality in Sheepstation Creek, Caboolture River and Moreton Bay
  • build accesses to allow regular maintenance
  • provide nature play opportunities for the community
  • create green space with footpaths and viewpoints.
  • increase biodiversity by planting food and habitat trees for native wildlife.

In 2010, Council prepared a Total Water Cycle Management Plan in partnership with Unity Water.

This plan is the first stage of a coordinated response to managing water quality in our rivers, creeks, beaches and bays. It identifies solutions to achieve the highest water quality at the least cost to the community.

Council completed and endorsed the original plan in 2013.

View the Total Water Cycle Management Plan webpage for more information.

Council manage development across our growing region by planning land use and infrastructure.

The Local Government Infrastructure Plan is an important part of our Planning Scheme. It identifies and ranks trunk infrastructure needed to support current and future growth.

Trunk infrastructure provides vital services to our communities. It is the green spaces, parks and sporting fields. The roads and pathways on which we drive, cycle and walk. The systems that manage the impact of our floodplains and our waterways’ health.
