Council is upgrading Cosmos Park at Banksia Beach to make it more inclusive.

Features of the park upgrade

The layout of the park will be adjusted, and will include:

  • Moreton Bay's first Council-owned pickleball courts
  • improved park amenities, including more picnic shelters and seating
  • a slightly larger dog off-leash park with separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, improved fencing, and more seating for dog owners
  • improved safety, accessibility and pedestrian movement throughout the park
  • new fitness equipment that caters to a range of ages and abilities
  • a basketball key court and hoop.

Project timeline

The project will be delivered in stages. Information on future stages will be published as planning progresses.

Stage one

Stage one will commence in mid-August 2024. Council anticipates the project will be completed in December 2024. This is subject to weather and unforeseen circumstances.

It includes the construction of:

  • four pickleball courts
  • 2.5m wide connecting paths
  • a fitness node
  • a basketball key court
  • a picnic shelter
  • water bubbler
  • bins
  • seating.

This stage will also include planting shade trees, landscaping, and installing electrical and plumbing infrastructure.

During stage one, the existing dog off-leash area will remain open while it undergoes reconfiguration, including earthworks, landscaping, and the addition of a shelter.

The construction of a new dog off-leash area will also begin in this stage. To allow new trees to mature, the new area will not be fenced or open to the public until a future stage. Decommissioning of the existing area will occur at a later stage.
