Council supports healthy and active lifestyles for residents by investing in safe, efficient, reliable and integrated transport networks. This project is consistent with that aim and will improve pedestrian and cyclist access to Centenary Lakes.
This project forms the first stage of the Centenary Lakes Activation, which is partly funded through the SEQ Liveability Fund.
The first stage of the project, on the southern side of Esme Avenue, will connect the existing pathway at Morayfield Road to the pathway under the rail bridge and on Edward Street. It will allow the local community to enjoy the area and take in scenic views of the Caboolture River, through new viewing platforms with tables and shelters. The project includes the construction of:
- a two-metre wide concrete pathway
- three elevated viewing structures
- a raised pedestrian crossing connecting with existing steps at the rear of 6-8 King Street
- an accessible parking bay.
Some trees will be affected during construction works. Council will remove any weed species in poor condition and attempt to retain as many healthy trees as possible, providing shade, amenity and habitat. Council will replace removed trees with three native trees around the local area.
Council is aware of the local demand for car parking. The project design aims to minimise the impact on the existing car park, with an overall loss of 7 parking spaces.
Construction update
In late September 2024, Council awarded the construction contract for this project, with works scheduled to commence on-site in early November 2024. Weather permitting, the works are expected to be completed by May 2025.
As part of the construction process, approximately 30 car parking spaces will be closed for the duration of the works. These closures are needed to accommodate the construction of the three elevated viewing structures.
Council acknowledges the inconvenience this may cause and kindly reminds the community that parking spaces at Centenary Lakes remain largely available for use during weekdays.
