White Patch Esplanade crossing upgrade

Excavator in road works

City of Moreton Bay has substantially completed the upgrade to the new bridge. The upgrade was undertaken following damage during the flood event in February 2022.

The new bridge connects White Patch and Bribie Island via Banksia Beach. The bridge is accessible to vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

The City acknowledges the assistance provided through Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) for the works.

Implemented works

The implemented works improve the flood immunity and resilience of White Patch Esplanade. They also minimise the impacts of flooding on local access for the White Patch community.

The following works have been implemented:

  • new two-lane bridge across Wrights Creek parallel to the existing roadway
  • new approach road works including connections to the existing shared path
  • road and bridge will have two traffic lanes and a separate shared path.

The following works are ongoing:

  • demolition of the temporary emergency causeway once the new bridge is open
  • rehabilitation of disturbed areas.

The project was assessed and approved under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999(Cwlth)(EPBC Act).
