Changes to Beachmere foreshore recreation areas

Beachmere’s foreshore dog and horse recreation boundaries are changing on Monday 3 February 2025. The foreshore provides dog off-leash and on-leash areas and horse recreation zones. These areas also provide valuable foraging and roosting grounds for our shorebirds.

To protect these vulnerable species, Council has revised the boundaries for the dog and horse recreation areas. From Monday 3 February 2025, dog and horse owners visiting the foreshore must observe Council’s new requirements.

Dog off-leash area

Walk your dog off-leash from the southern end of Biggs Avenue, across from the car park, south of the second footbridge. The dog off-leash area is approximately 13 hectares at low tide. Dogs are allowed on the signed parkland and beach only.

Dog on-leash areas

You can walk your dogs on-leash from Louise Drive to the northern end of Bayside Drive. You can also walk on-leash from Prince Street to the southern end of Biggs Avenue.

Prohibited areas

No dogs or horses are allowed in the prohibited areas. These areas, including the Beachmere Conservation Park, are for protecting the shorebirds’ habitat. Penalties apply.

Horses only area

Horses can be exercised between the Louise Drive beach entry point and Brooks Road. No dogs are permitted in this area.

Council asks that you abide by these new rules and practice responsible dog and horse ownership. This is so everyone can enjoy the foreshore for many years to come. Penalties will apply once these changes come into effect on 3 February.
