Council's pending changes

On 27 November 2024, Council approved amendments to the Beachmere foreshore recreation areas aimed to protect migratory and resident shorebird species. Some of these species are endangered and travel from as far away as Siberia and Alaska to roost along the Beachmere foreshore and Pumicestone Passage every September.

The amendments to the Beachmere foreshore recreation areas include the existing dog off-leash areas, dog on-leash area, horse recreation zone and prohibited areas. They were scheduled to be implemented from 3 February 2025 to allow beachgoers and residents time to adjust to the changes. However, after significant community interest, Council has delayed the commencement of these boundary changes pending further review or until further notice.

Amended recreation area boundaries: Louise Drive, Beachmere QLD in blue is an on-leash dog area, horses only between Louise Drive and Brooks Road in orange. All animals are prohibited between Brooks Road and Prince Street in red. Dogs on-leash are allowed between Prince Street and the end of Biggs Avenue in blue. Biggs Avenue in green is a dog off-leash area. The remaining red area beside the Mangrove area is prohibited for all animals. These amended boundaries are under review.
