Name a Council-owned park or recreation reserve

City of Moreton Bay knows the importance of naming parks and reserves after significant figures and events. The name can pay homage to a long-standing community member, historic landmark or First Peoples connections to the land.

You must supply evidence that supports your request such as the history of the land or the services given to the community.

Naming guidelines

Naming requests must meet a set of guidelines outlined in Council’s policy. The Naming of Council-Owned or Administered Public Places, Structures and Other Assets (excluding roads) policy recognises the social value naming places can add to the community and when selecting a name, the following are to be considered:

  • persons with a historical connection to the land or area
  • First Peoples connections to the land
  • name of pioneering families and long-term residents
  • names of respected community members
  • historic landmarks
  • persons having prior ownership of the park or reserve for a significant period of time
  • persons having made a financial or contribution to the park or reserve
  • recognition of a bequeathed or gifted parcel of land
  • local fauna, flora or geographic features
  • locality of the land.
