Asbestos
Asbestos is often found in insulation and building material in older properties. Asbestos containing material (ACM) is considered hazardous and regulated waste and has specific handling, transport and disposal requirements.
Disposal of asbestos is only permitted Monday - Friday, subject to 24 hours notice being provided.

- Disposal of all asbestos will incur fees.
- Disposal of asbestos is only permitted Monday - Friday. Contact council on (07) 3205 0555 or 1300 477 161 24 hours prior so arrangements can be made.
- ACM must be completely sealed and enclosed for safe transporting and disposal.
- Loads will be inspected to ensure the material is wrapped correctly.
- Customers will be turned away for failing to properly wrap the ACM.
- Residents and commercial operators disposing over 175 kilograms of ACM as the waste transporter must hold the appropriate environmental authority (ERA57) to transport ACM.
- Residents disposing over 250 kilograms of ACM will be required to present a completed Waste Transport Certificate at the weighbridge.
- Commercial operators disposing any amount of ACM are required to present a completed Waste Transport Certificate at the weighbridge as per the waste tracking obligations under the Environmental Protection Regulation 2019.
- Under the Environmental Protection Regulation 2019, all commercial operators MUST have a physical copy of a Waste Transport Certificate when transporting any quantity of asbestos.
- Disposal limits apply at Dakabin and Redcliffe waste facilities - maximum 1.5 metres length and/or 100 kilograms.
- All loads of ACM must be weighed. The weighbridge operator will advise residents to return to the weighbridge prior to exiting the site.
- Commercial customers must have appropriate lifting gear to lift the securely bagged ACM and place the bagged ACM at the landfill working face. It is not acceptable to tip and allow the bagged ACM to fall from the delivery vehicle.
- All customers must deposit the securely bagged ACM such that the containment bags do not rupture or break open when being deposited at the waste facility for disposal.
- No assistance is provided to aid with unloading material from vehicles.
- Domestic household asbestos waste fees and charges are not available to residents who engage a commercial operator for fee or reward to dispose of their asbestos waste, even if the resident is accompanying the commercial operator to the facility.
- Commercial waste fees and charges apply to any asbestos waste emanating from a residence where the person disposing of the asbestos waste has been engaged to do so for fee or reward.
