Ash and charcoal
Ashes must be completely cooled prior to disposal as it has caused collection truck or waste facility fires in the past.
Some ash can be harmful to use in compost and on gardens. This includes fires that have burnt treated, painted, oiled, or laminated:
- timber
- paper
- cardboard
- fabric
- and other materials
- or where the fire has been put out with fire-retardant chemicals.
Cold fire ash from raw, natural timber that has no chemicals, oils or other treatment may be added to your gardens or compost.
Always dispose of cold and double-bagged fire ash as General waste.
