Hazardous waste - household

Many materials we use in our homes cannot be disposed of in wheelie bins due to their ability to ignite and cause fires. Disposing of hazardous items in wheelie bins is a safety hazard for collection truck drivers, waste facility staff, and the community.

Hazardous household waste includes:

  • e-waste such as computers and televisions
  • mobile phones
  • chemicals and acids
  • paint and other liquid waste
  • fuel and gas canisters and containers
  • flares
  • explosives, fireworks and ammunition
  • gas bottles and canisters
  • motor and cooking oils
  • batteries, including rechargeable household batteries and items with a battery inside the item.
