Sandbags must not be placed into your general waste bin unless they are empty. The sand can be used as topsoil on lawns and gardens. Do not allow sand to wash into stormwater drains.

Council's Sustainability Champions Award is an annual waste reduction initiative. The program rewards and recognises schools and early learning education centres that are leading the way in sustainable waste management by:

Submit a pre-implementation site report
Submit a post-implementation site report
Site reports are evaluated against a set of criteria that includes efforts in waste avoidance and reduction, reuse, and recycling.
All submissions will receive a report card providing feedback and suggestions for improving best practices in waste management.
Council’s Waste Minimisation Team will contact you to arrange a site visit and inspection if your school or early learning education centre meets the criteria of a Sustainability Champion. Schools or early learning education centres that are awarded Sustainability Champions will get a certificate and an award that can be publicly displayed.
