5 steps for a successful year of reading

1. Define your goal

The first step to a successful reading resolution is to set a clear and achievable goal. Instead of overwhelming yourself with a lofty number of books, focus on what you genuinely enjoy. Consider setting a goal in terms of genres, authors, or a series you've been eager to explore. By defining your resolution, you'll have a roadmap that makes the journey both exciting and attainable. Remember to write this goal down somewhere you look regularly so you are reminded of it!

2. Make time

Everyone knows the feeling of losing their free time to busy work and life commitments. This year schedule a dedicated reading time into your daily routine. Whether you get up earlier or use your lunch break to read, allocating a specific time for reading helps establish a habit. You'll find it easier to stay committed to your resolution if reading is woven into your everyday.

3. Get rid of distractions

Distractions have a habit of stealing precious moments that we could spend immersed in a good book. The digital age has only made it worse with the temptation to spend your time scrolling. Designate a quiet reading space that is free from the siren calls of smartphones and other electronic devices. Consider turning off notifications during your reading time to create an oasis of focus. By eliminating distractions, you'll find yourself lost in the enchanting worlds that authors carefully craft for us.

4. Find your preference

The traditional form of reading is certainly not for everyone. Why not embrace alternative methods of reading such as audiobooks or e-books. Listening to books is the perfect solution if you find your days are full of commutes or household chores. Audiobooks allow you to absorb captivating stories without flipping a page. E-books make your library portable, letting you carry a multitude of titles in the palm of your hand. This flexibility ensures that your reading resolution is adaptable to your lifestyle. 5. Don’t force anything

When we make resolutions it's easy to fall into the trap of forcing ourselves to make ends meet. Remember that the joy of reading lies in the experience not the quantity. If a particular book doesn't resonate with you, feel free to set it aside to explore another. Let your literary journey unfold naturally, savouring each page without the pressure of meeting strict quotas.
