Plastic plays a role in all our lives and unfortunately, it’s also damaging our beautiful environment.
With Plastic Free July month here, we’ve got some great tips, tricks and actions you can take all year round to help reduce plastic pollution.
- Borrow a book
Our library catalogue is teeming with adult and children’s books on how to live more sustainably. From Lauren Carter’s popular ‘A family guide to waste-free living’ to the National Geographic kids ‘Kids vs. plastic: how you can be a waste warrior’, discover simple, practical changes you can make to your everyday lifestyle.

- Attend a free workshop
Council’s waste consultant will share tips and information that will assist you change the way you use plastic in all aspects of your life and learn what actions you can take to reduce plastic pollution and develop new plastic-free habits.
The presentation will also give you a snapshot of how waste is managed in the Moreton Bay region and how you can make more conscious everyday decisions to phase out single-use plastics.
And for the kids, we’ve got fun Recycled rocket launch events for the school holidays!

- Learn to sew
Join in the sustainable fashion revolution by making clothes or items for you or a loved one. The Sewing Studio at Redcliffe Library is open to all experience levels and is free to book once you complete a short induction.
Plus, if you’re stuck for patterns or ideas, we recommend ‘Sew It Yourself with DIY Daisy’ by local Gold Coast Author and creative sewer Daisy Braid.
